The Koona is a Yarra class tug boat that works in Newcastle Harbour. There are six of these tug boats that work in the harbour but they are not all the same. The main visable difference is the type of chimneys that they have and the placing of the main winches. In the Koona they can be seen just in front and behind the main cabin but in the some of the others the winches can be mounted nearly as high up as the cabin where the captain stears the boat from. The model that I built below is a 1 : 32 scale and the boat is about 3 feet long. The original boat was built in the 1970 and is still in use today escorting the coal ships into Newcastle harbour.
